Global Finance is a news site covering banking, markets, forex, fintech, commodities, insurance, and investments. It publishes a lot, every day.

The old site made that a problem. Everything shouted at once, so nothing stood out, and the design looked dated. Gunpowder Innovations redesigned the platform around the reading experience, so the important news is easy to find and the site can keep growing.

The challenge

Financial news moves fast, and this site covers many topics for many kinds of reader. On the old design, every section competed for attention on the same page.

The effect was that big stories got lost. Readers could not tell what was breaking news and what was published last week. Moving between categories was confusing, so people left instead of reading more.

The site needed a full redesign: a clear order to the content, easier article discovery, a modern look, better mobile support, and a structure the editorial team could keep filling for years.

What we built

We rebuilt the experience around the content itself. Breaking news, featured stories, market updates, and category pages each have their own clear place.

Featured news carousel. The biggest stories and market-moving events sit at the top.

Category sections. Banking, markets, forex, fintech, insurance, commodities, and investments each have their own space.

Editorial grid. Article layouts are built for scanning, so readers can take in a page quickly.

Breaking news first. Urgent stories are placed where they get seen immediately.

Market coverage. Room for market insights, investment news, and economic updates.

Reads well anywhere. Layouts adjust for desktop, tablet, and phone.

Press releases. A dedicated area for company announcements and industry news.

Article discovery. Clear paths from one story to related articles and categories.

Design approach

The main job was to create order. A reader should be able to glance at a page and know at once what is breaking, what is featured, and what is background.

We set that order with size, spacing, and position rather than with loud colours. Typography was chosen for long reading. White space was increased, which sounds simple but does most of the work.

The design system is flexible enough for the editorial team to build new pages without a designer, and consistent enough that the site never looks assembled by different hands.

Architecture and delivery

The platform handles a high volume of publishing without slowing down.

Its parts include the homepage editorial framework, featured story management, news categories, market intelligence sections, press release publishing, content management workflows, the responsive design system, and search and discovery.

We also planned where advertisements sit, so they earn revenue without interrupting the reading, and built the site on an SEO-friendly structure so articles rank well in search.

Results

Important stories get seen. A clear hierarchy gives featured and breaking news real prominence.

Readers stay longer. Structured layouts encourage people to move from one article to the next.

Faster to find things. Readers reach the market updates they want with less searching.

A more credible brand. The modern design makes the publication look as serious as its reporting.

Publishing can grow. The framework handles more content without becoming cluttered.

Works on every device. The reading experience is consistent from desktop to phone.

Conclusion

The redesign turned a traditional news website into a modern publishing platform.

Better information structure, a clear content hierarchy, and a design built around how people actually read now serve the site's readers, its editorial team, and the financial professionals who rely on it.
